Look after yourself
“When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot manifest, strength cannot fight, wealth becomes useless, and intelligence cannot be applied.” ― Herophilus
Our health is everything.
And yet, whatever our age, we rarely pause to reflect on how amazing the human body is, save in circumstances when we’re forced to confront our or someone else’s mortality.
Think about it.
How much time do you spend looking after yourself?
If we look at those societies where longevity is part of the culture, it’s usually the case that they eat well, eat much less than we do in the West, avoid noxious substances — alcohol, tobacco and sugar — and enjoy a regime of modest exercise.
And it’s not just our physical regime we need to pay attention to but we need to invite into our lives a faith beyond the credo of more.
As I continue to say, at the end of the day it’s a choice, but, frankly, when doing a few simple things every day can improve the quality of your life, can you really afford to hope for the best or rely on others to pick up the pieces?
