Simplify everything

“Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius — and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.”

– E. F. Schumacher

We fear the simple.

Why?

Perhaps it’s the unfolding to our true self. (We dare not allow our mind to rest on emptiness for fear we might go mad.)

In many ways, having too much on our plate is an analgesic that blots out the pain of having to confront the real issue(s). Just imagine how much we could grow if only we cleared a space – physically and metaphysically.

It has been said many times that we’ve never had it so good.

But, are we happy?

I don’t think so.

For me the measurement of success shouldn’t be based on the cut of our cloth, or the things we own. Rather, it’s to find joy in living simply, non-attachment and letting things be.

Next time you look at your busy To Do List or diary, ask yourself is this journey moving you in the direction of a life of purpose, meaning and truth. If not, perhaps it’s time you looked afresh at (your) life.

Let simplicity be your guide.
