The power of beginner’s mind – Julian Summerhayes

“If your mind is empty, it is always ready for anything, it is open to everything. In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s mind there are few. â€

I really want you to dwell on those words. Don’t rush through them as you normally would.

When was the last time you truly opened your mind to the possible, not by reference to your autobiography?

Just imagine if you approached everything with beginner’s mind.

How different would the world appear?

As humans, our egoic mind always wants to push on. It’s never happy unless it has something to work on. But I know the moment we inject our philosophy and past experience, we have already limited whatever outcome we wish for.

We often take comfort from the exploits of others, or the openness of our children but all of us have the power to change our paradigm.

Next time you think about what you want to achieve – a goal, dream or exploit – think beginner’s mind. Don’t dwell on what you’ve read, watched or experienced. Approach the object of your eye with a new mind, one filled with possibility not certainty.
