Silence is so accurate.
―
It may sound tautological, but we’re drowning in an absence of elders.
I know they exist somewhere out there across the vast expanse of our modern world but they get little if no airtime.
In fact, I’d go so far as to say that they’re anonymous.
Why is that?
Or a better question is why do we seek out the same people for an opinion, which by and large is premised on the dominant cultural narrative?
Speaking personally, I’m sick to the back teeth (molar-grinding would be a better way to describe my frustration) of hearing about what we all need to do — e.g. get educated, build a life around materialism and fight for the cause of comfort and must-havery.
How about a different, less anthropocentric song?
Namely, less wants and needs; a doubling down on individualism and going our own way in the world; making peace with nature and not trying our damndest to annihilate everything of value; and being more community-spirited and egalitarian and not elbowing everyone and everything out the way in pursuit of success.
Of course, it will never happen.
Instead, life for many millions of people will have to get a lot worse before we rise up and say:
How the hell did it get like this?
But what do I know?
Not very much it seems.
Take care, Julian
