“The only way to find true happiness is to risk being completely cut open.” ― Chuck Palahniuk, Invisible Monsters
We didn’t choose to be born.
We arrived, spirited on our way (normally) by parents who wanted the best for us.
We grow up — of a fashion.
We go to work, earn our crust, live into our moral responsibilities and hope that somehow we work out what’s really going on.
We question everything.
A few people — a very few in my experience — understand that there’s no purpose to purpose: we’re alive and that’s it.
But look at the damage we’ve caused.
Whenever then do we stop and question our birth?
Rarely, if ever.
We assume we’re here for a reason, but what is it?
To love and be loved?
Truth is, I don’t know. Certainly, in my case, I’ve no idea why my parents brought me into the world. I wasn’t loved for who I was, and railed constantly against their purview of the world. In the end, I was shown the door, and I had to make my own way in the world.
I don’t know.
With the passing of years and my children growing up and growing into who they are I continue to question what they actually need from me.
Perhaps I’m trapped in a vortex of my own making but I think it’s worth asking the aforementioned question once in a while if only because there has to be more to life than the life that most of us are currently living.
