Stop trying to be perfect – Julian Summerhayes

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” ― Albert Einstein

Sorry, perhaps you didn’t hear me: you’re alive.

But it’s never enough. Never.

Perhaps it’s our conditioning — “Please Sir, can I have some more” — or our ego’s desire not to be outdone by what others have, or something I can’t even articulate, but our intense desire for betterment is not what life’s about, less still the ‘perfect’ life.

No. Life is meant for living.

Trust me, as someone who’s looked out across the valley of death, once you’ve felt, experienced or witnessed it, everything else seems so tame. Actually, that’s not quite right. It’s not that you don’t want to go there again, you know that death, like taking the next breath, is inevitable, and you’re living on borrowed time.

Some say I’m on mission; others think I’m a bit out there on the Woo Woo scale; others…, well I’m not quite sure; but one thing I’m sure about (now) is that I don’t see my life as the accretion of more, or a series of faux goals or a lifestyle that mirrors what everyone else has.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still in ‘creation’ mode by dint of having to earn a living, but I’m absolutely not fixated with the perfect life, nor one that mirrors what others think I should have. No, I’m here to live the only way I know how; namely, as the above quote says, as if everything is a miracle.

In the end, though, it’s all a choice, but if your life is being filled with activity, dreams of a better life (“When I get [insert] I’ll be happy”), or chasing down the next ‘must have’ thing, I can guarantee you’ll miss everything that life has to offer.
