“You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope.” ― Thomas Merton
Sadly, we no longer believe in anything.
Even our own destiny.
If it wasn’t obvious, it’s easier to condemn, criticise and complain than it is to follow our own path.
We don’t know.
Truth is, we’ve never stopped long enough to examine our circumstances, let alone invite the question:
What am I?
I know this question seems nonsensical but then again, where else are you going to start?
How can I be happy?
Yes, but who is the ‘I’ that wants to be happy?
Or, who is it that has the thoughts, feelings and emotions that dictate your mood?
I accept that this field of study — i.e. self-inquiry — can result in a myriad of confusing ideas and concepts, but if you need any life lessons look to nature: she doesn’t argue with what is: she accepts everything as it is.
Imagine it: you accepted this moment — the full bloody catastrophe — as if you’d chosen it.
OK, perhaps that’s pushing the boat out too far but then again, just imagine how things might be different if you were at one with your circumstances and not separate and divided.
