Enjoy now – Julian Summerhayes

“Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.”

Every day is an opportunity to create something remarkable.

But, sometimes, we get so carried away by always being engaged that we forget to enjoy now.

As it trite as it sounds, this moment is all we have.

If you have ever tried to quiet your inner voice then you will realise how beautiful now is. You don’t have to escape to the country, take a holiday or buy something as a pick me up.

One exercise that I have been exposed to, which is a lot harder than you think, is to sit in a quiet place, keep your eyes open and just sit still for 5 to 6 minutes. It’s not about focusing on anything in particular but rather just feeling what it is like not to talk and sit still.

I would love you to try it or something similar. But don’t just do it once, try to develop a practice every day.

If all this sounds a bit metaphysical, and you don’t feel ready to explore any type of mindfulness then at least make sure you keep time aside for you.

But please don’t put a label on it before you start (“thinking time”).
